Waterproof Blue-footed Booby Sula nebouxii. San Pedro Mártir Island, Mexico. Alejandro Prieto Rojas, Mexico. Category: Attention to Detail. COMMENDED. Photographer’s Story: ‘In November 2018 I was lucky enough to take part in an expedition to San Pedro Mártir Island. It was an assignment for IUCN (International Union for the Conservation of Nature) and the aim of the expedition was to document the wildlife of this IUCN site, which is on their Green List of Protected and Conserved Areas. As a testament to the island’s importance in 2005 it received the honour of being classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. San Pedro Mártir Island is home to one of the largest Blue-footed Booby colonies in the world. They are everywhere you look. The texture of their waterproof plumage fascinated me and inspired this close-up image that includes a thirsty fly sipping the booby’s tears.’ Nikon D850 with Nikon 200-400mm f/4 lens. 400mm focal length; 1/500 second; f/14; ISO 800. Gitzo Tripod.
